I’m pleased. I had an informal driving lesson today. Yes, I know how to drive. I’ve been driving for years in the US. Yet suddenly, when I come to the UK, I forget how to drive. Actually, when it comes to driving a manual, I forget how to drive.
Driving on the “other” side of the road doesn’t bother me, since I’ve been cycling around England now for a year. It’s the manual transmission bit that scares me. Until today, I’ve unsuccessfully had a few lessons on manual cars. Well, friends, I finally succeeded today. My first lesson? Hill starts. Yep. Hill starts are were my biggest fear. And I finally did it! Granted, I still need a lot of practice… but it’s a step!
