If you know me well, you know that one of my all-time favourite bands is Over the Rhine (if you haven’t heard of them, check them out… after you read this post of course!). It doesn’t come as a surprise that a lot of my favourite quotes come from their music. I like them because there’s a sense of realness and honesty in their lyrics. I find I can relate well to some of their songs. Plus they just have a great, versatile sound!

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, that the quote that resonated with me this past year comes from an OtR song. This song is just beautiful. I won’t bore you with the entire song… you can check it out on YouTube if you want to hear it.

It just serves as a reminder that people aren’t perfect. As a Christian, I’m a sinner saved by grace. I’m going to mess up. I’m constantly learning things over and over again. I have a hard time trusting God at times. I get knocked down and broken. And all that is okay as long as I trust God to pick up those broken pieces and help me start over.
It’s okay. I’m broken, you’re broken, we’re all broken. In many different ways. But by thankfully, God can heal us of our brokenness. It’s just a life-long process.
